Spraynard started in the summer of 2008 when three friends(Patrick
Graham, Patrick Ware, and Mark Dickinson) felt the need for a
resurgence of DIY music in their hometown. They combine passionate
& urgent vocals with infectious pop punk in the vein of PLOW
UNITED and OSKER. This is their Asian Man debut called
"funtitled".

   More of a power pop band than anything else, though they're nestled in
   Southern California's skate/snowboard punk scene, Unwritten Law formed early
   in the 1990s, with drummer Wade Youman the only holdover from the band's
   early days. The group eventually coalesced around vocalist Scott Russo,
   guitarists Rob Brewer and Steve Morris, bassist John Bell, and Youman.

   After releasing their debut, Blue Room, on an independent label, Unwritten
   Law toured America several times but grew disgusted by the lack of
   distribution of their records. The quartet eventually signed to Epic, which
   re-released Blue Room and in 1996 issued their second album, Oz Factor. The
   group jumped labels yet again in 1997, to Interscope, and recorded their
   third album, the self-titled "black" album, in 1998. Just before its release
   in June of that year, Bell left and was replaced by Sprung Monkey's Pat Kim.
   The album spawned a few semi-hits among the skate crowd like "Lonesome" and
   "Cailin." Three years later, the band issued their fourth full-length, Elva,
   in early 2002. Debut single "Seein' Red" was a hit among TRL and mainstream
   radio.

   Before the year came to a close, Unwritten Law inked a major deal with Lava
   Records. The largely acoustic Music in High Places followed in early 2003.
   Recorded on location at Yellowstone National Park, the album was part of
   MTV's Music from High Places series, a sort of National Geographic Explorer
   for the Warped Tour set. While the band started recording their fifth studio
   effort in 2004, Tony Palermo (Pulley, the Jealous Sound) replaced Wade Youman
   on drums. The Sean Beavan-produced Here's to the Mourning followed in
   February 2005, which did reasonably well, mostly due to the single "Save Me."
   Brewer was kicked out of the band during a subsequent tour with Sum 41,
   apparently due to "volatile circumstances" between him and the rest of the
   group, and they decided to continue on as a four-piece instead of replacing
   him. Unwritten Law's installment for the 20th Century Masters: The Millennium
   Collection series was issued in fall 2006 by one of their old labels,
   Interscope, a suspect move considering the band was due to release their own
   greatest-hits compilation, The Hit List (which included various re-recordings
   and a new song), in early January 2007.

After two-and-a-half years the music that provided a soundtrack for
rebellious-yet-sensitive, coastal-dreaming pop-punk kids of the early 00’s is
back. Yellowcard have put the break to rest with the announcement of a brand new
record on a new label and tearing into life on the road again.

Returning to their pre-major label indie beginnings, Yellowcard have recently
signed with Hopeless Records for their seventh studio album, the first since
2007’s Paper Walls. For round seven (and after 3 million records sold), Ryan Key
(vocals/guitar) and original members Sean Mackin (violin) and Longineu (“LP”)
Parsons (drums) continuing with Ryan Mendez (guitar) will be joined by longtime
friend of the band Sean O’Donnell (bass), whose addition has been described as a
“natural fit” for the current mindset and progression of the group.

“Hopeless seemed to be the right place for us; they were really interested in
working with the band, very proactive, and had a lot of great ideas for us,”
says frontman/guitarist Ryan Key. “They’re giving us the opportunity to do
exactly what we want with it, and we’re thankful to have an established fanbase
that is already interested in what we have to put out.”

“We have all been big fans of Yellowcard since their early days” adds Hopeless
Records President Louis Posen. “Our team is having a great time working with the
band and we are thrilled that there is going to be a new Yellowcard album soon.
We know the fans want new music and we are honored and humbled that we get to
play a part in helping such a great band write the next chapter in their
career.”

Key said the writing process has been like picking up just where they left off,
that they “feel like kids again, having fun and driving around listening to the
music we just created, no words yet, just the music over and over again.” They
will soon begin recording with their tried-and-true producer Neal Avron – “the
sixth member of our band” – and are aiming for a spring release, enough time to
take new material and the classic benchmarks out for a refresher.

“We’re talking about a ton of different ideas, and we’re itching to start as
soon as possible,” Key said. “Ultimately, we want to make something the fans
will love. What we love to do most, is look out from the stage and see people
exploding with energy, and I think we keep that in mind while we are writing. We
miss being out on the road playing for Yellowcard fans all around the world, and
without their support we wouldn’t have a career.”

Early in 2010, a new band from Richmond recorded a six song EP
that took me completely by surprise. That band was Sundials and
their virtually flawless debut was a prime example of how to play
confident and catchy '90s influenced indie/punk with charm and
attitude. Each song was distinct, memorable, and exciting, and
within a day I must have listened to it fifty times over. When I
heard just a few months later that the band had already written an
entire full-length's worth of material to follow up that first EP,
I got on board to release it without a moment of hesitation. If
you love Kudrow, Cheap Girls, or any of the other upstarts taking
cues from bands like Archers of Loaf and Superchunk, this is your
album for 2011.
