Here's a collection from this amazing Chicago band. They were definitely one
of my favorites when their Asian Man Debut came out in 2000, and their music
still means a lot to me today. It's got that Tim guy from Rise Against and Dan
and Rob from the Broadways. Now that's a good band. Anyways, these records are
remastered and this is the first time the demo has been on CD.

Awesome album. #yesitsthatgood

In February of 2011, Touche Amore piled into their beat up tour
van in an Los Angeles suburb and set off on a twenty six hour
journey to Eudora, Kansas. With a population of just over four
thousand people, Eudora may be a peculiar place for a punk band to
go, but nestled in its rural isolation is acclaimed engineer Ed
Rose and his Black Lodge Studios (formerly Redhouse Recording
Studio). There under Rose's attentive ears, Touche Amore poured
their patchwork soul into their latest work, "Parting the Sea
Between Brightness and Me".

In "Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me", Touche Amore's
creative formula is driven by emotional affect, not contemporary
studio effects. In the purest form possible, raw shouted vocals
and clean manic guitars fight for volume over roomy bass and
percussion. Creating a sound that is shockingly simple as it is
emotionally engaging. The serene and fragile opening notes of
"Tilde" serve as the album's introductory serenade before Touche
Amore pound and jangle into the hook-laden song. And seconds
later, when vocalist/lyricist Jeremy Bolm screams "...I'm parting
the sea between brightness and me...", a tone of desperation sets
in that resonates throughout the duration of the album. His
straight forward cries convincingly tell his own personal story.
To some, this lyrical writing could read as a diary based purely
in self deprecation, but his words cut and pull from a much deeper
place in the heart. Serving as an open window into his constant
soul searching amid life's constant trials and tribulations. Songs
like "Home Away From Here" and "Sesame" are great examples of
this, infectious in their sound and moving lyrical spirit. While
"Method Act" and the emotional "Condolences" show the band
experimenting with epic leanings while maintaining their beloved
trademark character. Without a doubt, Touche Amore's "Parting the
Sea Between Brightness and Me" is a stunning full length
achievement on any scale. Proving that there is true beauty within
the concept of artistic simplicity.

Face_To_Face-Laugh_Now_Laugh_Later-2011-FNT

- Release Info -------------------------------------------------------------- -

  Artist:      Face to Face
  Album:       Laugh Now, Laugh Later
  Label:       Antagonist Records
  Playtime:    35:57 min
  Genre:       Punk Rock
  URL:         http://www.facetofacemusic.com
  Rip date:    2011-05-13
  Street date: 2011-05-17
  Size:        72.44 MB
  Type:        Normal
  Quality:     268 kbps / 4410Hz / Joint Stereo

- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -

"The first time I ever heard Face to Face was actually on the "Saturday
Morning Cartoons" soundtrack in 1995. I had already discovered other Southern
California style punk rock bands like Pennywise, NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid
and Down By Law and just could not get enough. They covered "Popeye the Sailor
Man" well enough to make me want to hear more, so I immediately went out and
bought "Big Choice". Little did I know that my life would pretty much change
forever due to the musical choices I made that summer as a wet behind the ears
teenage idiot, leading me to a life of going to shows in basements, hot sweaty
festivals and being a devoted member of the underground music scene. And I can
honestly say that this band helped me through so many tough times. Teen
heartbreak, loss, depression - I felt that if someone was making music with
the lyrics and feeling behind it that Face to Face was, that eventually things
would get better and I would meet more like minded people and finally find a
  place I could fit in.

Nostalgia aside, every time I hear that a new album is on the way from these
guys, I get really excited because I can honestly say nothing they have done
has ever let me down. "Ignorance is Bliss" is considered to be an album that
turned a lot of the punk kids off due to its more dreary, melodramatic
feeling. But personally, I loved that album. I guess people just expected them
to keep releasing albums like "Don't Turn Away", "Big Choice", and "S/T" -
which would also have been fine by me since I love all of those albums as
well, but I respected their need to try something a little different.

This album, in my opinion, is a perfect blend of their signature sound with a
slight nod to the "Ignorance is Bliss" overtones. This is certainly not fluff.
Tracks like "Under The Wreckage" and "Blood in the Water" and "What You Came
For" remind me a lot of the more emotional and brooding Ignorance is Bliss
days while other tracks take the slightly poppier route, and even more are
more similar to the S/T album. There is a little something for every long time
fan in this album, all while maintaining the lyrical integrity that drew us to
the band in the first place.

My favorite tracks on the album so far are "All for Nothing" and "What You
Came For" - by far the catchiest songs on here. But honestly it's very hard to
find a weakness in any of the songs. "It's All About You" and "Bombs Away" are
almost throwbacks to the Don't Turn Away days, which is probably my favorite
album of theirs. Most albums by long time punk veterans can be a little hit or
miss but this is about as solid as they come.

In closing, if you are a fan of this band, you need this album. There are so
many different feels and nuances that only a band that has been around for a
long time could develop without leading to stale riffs, stale lyrics and
rehashed themes. These guys are true pros, and will always remain in my top 5
  favorite bands of all time."

- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -

Growing up together in Marshall, MI, the members of Small Brown Bike have been
friends, bandmates, and minor bike mechanics the majority of their lives. When
brothers Mike and Ben Reed (vocals/guitar and bass/vocals, respectively),
Travis Dopp (guitar), and Dan Jaquint (drums) were looking for band names for
the project they started in the fall of 1996, they looked back on their
collective small-town childhood and came up with Small Brown Bike, named for a
sentimental Frankenstein bicycle that they had pieced together from parts as
kids. After self-releasing their No Place Like You 7" in 1997 and following up
in 1998 with the (and don't forget me) 7" and appearing on a couple
compilations, the band attracted the attention of Gainesville, FL's No Idea
Records through relentless regional touring and a fraternal relationship with
Hot Water Music. No Idea released Our Own Wars in 1999 before Dopp stepped
down from guitar and friend Scott Flaster took over. The compilation
Collection, including singles and vinyl-only tracks, also appeared that year.
Recorded with producer Ed Rose in between touring with HWM and Saves the Day,
they followed up with their Dead Reckoning CD/LP in the fall of 2001. Dopp
returned to the ranks of Small Brown Bike in January 2002 with a new drummer,
Jeff Gensterblum, signing on in March as Jaquint decided to pursue a full-time
job and school. The band hooked up with the Casket Lottery for an October
split EP. The split was very well received (described as "essential" by some
critics) and further caught the attention of Lookout Records, who then
released their next album, The River Bed, in September 2003. An EP, Nail
Yourself to the Ground, additionally appeared that June on No Idea. After
several months of touring in support, however, Small Brown Bike announced
their dissolution by the year's end. Their last show was played in 2004 at
  Chicago's Fireside Bowl.

Release Notes:

Rightwing governments and protest music go together like beans and
toast. So, it was somewhat inevitable that the ConDem government would
soon spawn a response from musical circles, especially as it sets about
dismantling the institutions of British society in the name of
'austerity measures'. And it's unsurprising that long time political
activists and agit-punks King Blues' third album, Punk and Poetry
travels down the path that many an earnest musician before them has
carried a placard upon.

The thing is, though, that it's actually bloody great. Hackney's finest
have not only made a record that encapsulates the sense of frustration,
disempowerment and incredulity that permeates so many living rooms,
pubs and workplaces in the UK, but which is also a damn good album in
its own right.

Musically, it's eclectic, coupling the Blues' familiar ska-punk with
folk, drum and bass and even some Scroobius Pip-style poetry skits: the
latter includes the furiously righteous 'Shooting Fascists', more of
which later. That's not to say that they've diluted their ska roots,
though: in fact, 'Set The World On Fire' and 'Headbutt' are two of the
finest pop-ska tunes I've heard since Rancid were in their prime.

The music ain't the be-all and end-all, however. Lead singer Itch has
always been one to wear his heart on his sleeve, but unafraid to wield
a wicked wit. Punk and Poetry showcases both of those traits to full
effect. His lyrics range from outraged fury to strikingly beautiful
imagery, all infused with a very British observational humour and
sensibility. 'The Future's Not What It Used To Be', 'Five Bottles of
Shampoo', 'Fucking Angry' are all great examples of this: however,
Itch's finest moment is the aforementioned 'Shooting Fascists'. A
simple anti-EDL ukelele tune that end on the simple refrain, "Your
granddad didn't vote for fascists - he shot 'em", it's the most
poignant, quietly outraged and effective moment on the entire album.

Admittedly, Punk and Poetry isn't perfect. The politics are
occasionally a bit student soapbox, and the subjects railed against
seem a bit random - as if the Blues have taken inspiration from
whatever's on the front of the Daily Mail that morning. The sentiments
also come across as clumsy from time to time, not least the occasional
diversion into 'troo luv will save the wurld' territory.

That mawkishness is all part of the album's charm, though. For all its
awkwardness, for all its outrage in major chords, it's ultimately
hopeful. Sure, there are some bum notes, but it's music with passion.
It makes you want to DO something, and that is what a real protest
album is really about.

perhaps the fundamental question when it comes to modern
punk rock is this: what exactly is the artist intending to
achieve? usually, it’s one of two things – either to
question authority and at least to attempt to unnerve the
ruling class, or else it’s simply to play pop songs at a
speed in contravention of sensible limits.

to their credit, chicago’s rise against manage to place a
foot in both of these camps. the ominously titled endgame,
the group’s sixth album in 10 years, is a muscular
collection of high-energy punk that, amid the flurry,
manages to display a level of high-mindedness that is
becoming increasingly rare. the sound of the suburban
middle-class, too often this is a genre the narrative
concerns of which have become colloquial, even mundane; as
if the fact that in the past few years the great
institutions of state have appeared no more secure than a
secret in a soap opera is nothing compared to the concerns
of getting a date, or getting even with someone you dated
once upon a time. with topics ranging from the bp oil
spill in the gulf of mexico to the perceived unravelling
of the american body politic, if nothing else at least
rise against have a view of their country that extends
beyond the boundary of a white picket fence.

even so, while endgame is a strong album, and certainly an
honourable one, it does lack an ingredient that might be
identified as magic. the problem with playing songs twice
as fast as the average is that these songs last only half
as long. by such a measure, the 12 compositions featured
here should be out of the listener’s hair in less than 25
minutes. as it is, in the name of progression rise against
have stretched things out a bit, meaning some of the
selections here do overstay their welcome by about a
minute and a half. that the essence of these songs is
usually as strong as the identity of the band that wrote
them means that no great harm is done. even so, endgame is
not quite as short, or sharp, or shocking as it otherwise
might have been.

- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -

It's been a long 11 years. I can't believe the day has finally come that the
Weasel returns! Enjoy and pick it up next week or you're a fuckin poser!

Screeching Weasel is an American punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They were
formed in 1986 by Ben Weasel (aka Ben Foster who also used to be a columnist
for the punk fanzine Maximum Rocknroll) and John Jughead (aka John Pierson).
The band gained prominence in the early 1990s after signing to East Bay punk
label, Lookout! Records and are cited to be a major influence over many bands
playing that style of punk music.

Through the years, the band went through many line-up changes, with Ben and
John being the only constant members since the bandÆs inception. Screeching
Weasel officially broke up for (roughly) the third - and allegedly final -
   time on July 6, 2001.
The band did a few surprise shows between 2001-2009.

Ben Weasel reformed the group in March 2009 with a new line-up, and without
   John Jughead.

The current Screeching Weasel line-up includes:
   Ben Weasel
   Dan Vapid
   Simon Lamb (the Ritalins)
   Justin Perkins (YesterdayÆs Kids)
   Adam Cargin (Blueheels)
